Lukas Dhont

Lukas Dhont made his critically acclaimed feature-length directorial debut in 2018 with Girl, a powerful drama that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. The film earned significant recognition, securing both the Caméra d’Or for best first feature and the Queer Palm at Cannes. Girl went on to receive the André Cavens Award for Best Film and was selected as Belgium’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards. Further cementing its impact, the film garnered nine nominations at the 9th Magritte Awards, ultimately winning four, including Best Flemish Film and Best Screenplay for Dhont.

Dhont continued his trajectory of international success with his second feature, Close, which premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. The film received widespread critical acclaim and shared the prestigious Grand Prix with Claire Denis’ Stars At Noon. Close further distinguished itself by winning the Sydney Film Prize in June 2022 and earned an Academy Award nomination for Best International Feature Film in 2023, underscoring Dhont’s consistent ability to craft compelling and resonant narratives that captivate global audiences. Beyond his directorial achievements, Dhont’s industry influence was recognized in 2019 with his inclusion on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe list for his contributions to entertainment.

Demonstrating a commitment to impactful storytelling, he co-founded the independent production company The Reunion. Through The Reunion, Dhont actively develops new projects, currently including Julian (2025) and Young Mothers (2025), where he serves as a producer, expanding his creative scope within the industry. Solidifying his standing within the international film community, Dhont was invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2023. In 2024, he presided over the Queer Palm jury for the Cannes Film Festival, further showcasing his leadership and artistic insight.
