Lukas Moodysson

Lukas Moodysson is an acclaimed Swedish filmmaker and writer, recognized for his impactful narrative and experimental films that delve into human relationships and societal issues. After achieving significant domestic and international recognition with his 1998 romantic film, ‘Show Me Love’ (known in Sweden as ‘Fucking Åmål’), Lukas Moodysson established himself as a prominent Swedish filmmaker. This impactful narrative, depicting a love story in a small Swedish town, garnered four prestigious Guldbagge Awards, including Best Film, Best Actress, Best Direction, and Best Script. The film also received the Teddy Award for Best Feature Film in 1999.

Moodysson made his English-language debut with ‘Mammoth’ in 2009. In 2013, Moodysson revisited themes reminiscent of his earlier successes with ‘We Are the Best!’, a film based on a comic by his wife Coco Moodysson. His work further expanded into television with the 2019 HBO series ‘Gösta,’ which he directed. Most recently, Moodysson continued to explore his established narrative themes with the 2023 sequel, ‘Together 99,’ a follow-up to his 2000 hit.

Across his acclaimed career, Moodysson’s films have consistently explored diverse narrative styles, from naturalistic drama to abstract experimentation. He has been a consistent collaborator with Swedish production company Memfis Film, which has supported many of his projects. Recognized for his distinct voice and thematic depth, Moodysson received the Stig Dagerman Prize in 2003 for his significant contributions to cinema. He is currently directing his upcoming feature film, ‘Vi går inte härifrån,’ slated for release in 2025, further solidifying his active presence in the industry.
