Luke Humphries, born on February 11, 1995, in Reading, Berkshire, and raised in West Berkshire before moving to Crewe, Cheshire, began his professional darts career in 2011. His early career saw significant success in youth events, winning five PDC Development Tour titles in 2017 and finishing at the top of the Development Tour Order of Merit. This achievement earned him qualification for the 2018 PDC World Darts Championship and a PDC Tour Card for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. In 2019, Humphries continued his ascent by winning the PDC World Youth Championship, defeating Adam Gawlas 6–0 in the final, and made his breakthrough on television by reaching the quarter-finals of the 2019 World Championship.
Humphries’ career saw further progression between 2020 and 2021, featuring his first major final appearance at the 2021 UK Open. Although he was defeated by James Wade, this period marked his growing presence in the professional circuit. The year 2022 was pivotal for Humphries as he secured his first PDC ranking title at Players Championship 1 and went on to win four European Tour titles, including the German Darts Grand Prix, Czech Darts Open, and European Darts Matchplay. His consistent performances led to semi-final appearances at the Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals.
The years 2023 and 2024 marked Humphries’ rise to the pinnacle of darts. In 2023, he secured his first major title at the World Grand Prix, followed by victories at the Grand Slam of Darts and the Players Championship Finals. His dominant run culminated in winning the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship, beating Luke Littler in the final, which propelled him to the world number one ranking. In 2024, he also won the World Matchplay and partnered with Michael Smith to win the World Cup of Darts for England, solidifying his status as a leading figure in professional darts. In June 2025, he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to darts.
