Alexis Dubus, born in 1979 in Buckinghamshire, England, established himself in the British comedy scene. He pursued his education at the University of Warwick, where he studied Philosophy and Psychology and was a member of the Ubersausage sketch troupe. In 2003, Dubus co-founded the Falling Down With Laughter Comedy Club in London Bridge, which operated successfully until 2010. His comedic journey began with a focus on alternative comedy, and he later refined his craft by studying Le Jeu and Clowning at École Philippe Gaulier under Philippe Gaulier.

Dubus developed the character of Marcel Lucont as a vehicle to deliver satirical commentary on British society from an outside perspective. This persona, a self-described flâneur, misogynist, misanthrope, and nihilist, gained recognition for its distinctive French accent, inspired by Dubus’s grandfather. Marcel Lucont’s debut in 2009 with “Marcel Lucont: Sexual Metro” at the Edinburgh Fringe earned him the Best Comedy Individual Award at Buxton Fringe. This character quickly became central to Dubus’s career, leading to numerous tours and appearances at major comedy festivals globally.

Over the years, Dubus, as Marcel Lucont, has received critical acclaim and awards, including the Amused Moose Laughter Award for Best Comedy and the Fringe World Award for Best Comedy for “Marcel Lucont: Gallic Symbol” in 2012. His Edinburgh Fringe shows, such as “Marcel Lucont’s Whine List” (2016–18), which toured the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, have been noted for their interactive and socially observant humor. He has also expanded his work into writing, with the publication of “What We French Think of You British… And Where You Are Going Wrong” (2011), and has released several albums under the Marcel Lucont moniker, featuring songs and poetry.
