About

Isla Lang Fisher was born on February 3, 1976, in Muscat, Oman, to Scottish parents, and later moved to Perth, Australia, in the early 1980s. Her interest in performing began at a young age, leading to appearances in Australian TV commercials by the age of nine. She secured early acting roles in Australian television series like “Bay City” (1993) and “Paradise Beach” (1993), before landing a significant role in the long-running soap opera “Home and Away” (1988), where she played Shannon Reed from 1994 to 1997. During this period, Fisher also pursued her passion for writing, publishing two best-selling novels, “Seduced By Fame” and “Bewitched.” After her time on “Home and Away,” she further honed her craft by studying at L’École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris, focusing on clown, mime, musical theatre, and commedia dell’arte.

Fisher transitioned to Hollywood with a supporting role in the film “Scooby-Doo” (2002), which, despite mixed reviews, was a commercial success, grossing $275.7 million worldwide. Her breakthrough performance came in the 2005 comedy “Wedding Crashers,” where she played Gloria Cleary, earning her the Best Breakthrough Performance Award at the 2006 MTV Movie Awards. She continued to build her filmography with roles in “London” (2005), “Wedding Daze” (2006), “The Lookout” (2007), and “Hot Rod” (2007). In 2008, she appeared in the romantic comedy “Definitely, Maybe,” which was a commercial success, and lent her voice to the animated film “Horton Hears a Who!”.

Her first leading film role was in “Confessions of a Shopaholic” (2009), a commercial success that grossed $108.3 million worldwide. Fisher further expanded her career with voice roles in critically acclaimed animated films like “Rango” (2011) and “Rise of the Guardians” (2012), for which she received an Alliance of Women Film Journalists Award for Best Animated Female category. 2013 marked a period of mainstream recognition with roles in major films: Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby,” which earned her several nominations for Best Supporting Actress, and the heist thriller “Now You See Me,” both grossing over $350 million globally. She also had a recurring role in the fourth and fifth seasons of the sitcom “Arrested Development” (2013-2019) and released her children’s book series, “Marge in Charge,” starting in 2016.
