Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Marcus Almeida has won countless medals at competitions around the world, and recently joined the ONE Championship.
Almeida started training in jiu-jitsu when he was just 14 years old, quickly working his way up through the ranks and emerging as a prodigious jiu-jitsu talent. In 2010 he took home a silver medal at the Nogi World Championship, establishing himself on the international circuit and going on to take two gold medals at the competition the following year. An incredible run of medal winning performances followed for the athlete, with gold medals at the 2011, 2012 and 2013 Pan American Championships as well as the 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 World Cup events. Almeida has taken home an impressive 13 gold medals at the World Championships since 2011, as well as two silvers and a bronze. As well being a world champion multiple times in jiu-jitsu, the fighter has also won several medals in submission wrestling including two golds in 2013 and 2017 and two silvers in 2013 and 2019.
With a reputation for being a dominating force in the world of professional martial arts, most recently Almeida turned his attention to mixed martial arts. He signed a contract with the ONE Championship in 2020, winning his first match for the promotion the following year. Almeida is one of the most decorated athletes in the sport and continues to be at the top of his game.
