Mark Allen

Mark Allen was born on February 22, 1986, in Antrim, Northern Ireland. He began his snooker career at a young age, initially considering football with trials for Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest. However, his focus shifted to snooker, where he quickly demonstrated talent. Allen won the Northern Ireland U14, U16, U18, and U19 titles in consecutive years, also securing the European Championship and IBSF World Championship in 2004 as an amateur. He turned professional in 2005, making an immediate impact by defeating seasoned players Steve Davis and John Higgins in his first two matches at the invitational Northern Ireland Trophy.

Throughout his professional career, Allen has been recognized for his determination and composure. His first ranking title came in 2012 at the World Open, where he dominated the final with a 10-1 victory over Stephen Lee. He continued to build on this success, eventually joining a select group of players with double-digit ranking titles. Major milestones include winning the Masters in 2018 and the UK Championship in 2022, securing Triple Crown titles. In the 2022/23 season, Allen achieved a career-best, winning three ranking events and reaching number three in the world rankings. He briefly held the world number one position from May to August 2024, becoming the 12th player in snooker history to reach this esteemed status. He has also made a 147 break at the Crucible, a notable achievement in snooker.

Allen’s career is marked by steady progression and significant achievements. He has reached the semi-finals of the World Championship on two occasions, in 2009 and 2023. He has also compiled over 600 century breaks, including five maximum breaks, making him the only player to achieve maximums in all three Triple Crown events. Beyond the table, Allen has been involved in community work, delivering groceries and medications to vulnerable individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2024, he founded the Mark Allen Foundation to assist local people in need.
