Liam Highfield was born on December 1, 1990, in England. He turned professional in 2010, marking the beginning of his career on the World Snooker Tour. Highfield earned his professional status after finishing second in the 2009/2010 International Open Series (PIOS) rankings. Early in his career, he demonstrated his potential by reaching the semi-finals of a Players Tour Championship event in Gloucester in 2010. His career progression has been marked by a determination to maintain his tour card and achieve deeper runs in professional tournaments.
A significant milestone in Highfield’s career occurred in 2017 when he reached the quarter-finals of a ranking event for the first time at the Indian Open. The following year, 2018, saw him qualify for the final stages of the World Championship at the Crucible for the first time, an achievement he repeated in 2021 and 2022. Despite not yet securing a win at the Crucible, repeated qualification demonstrates his consistent high-level play. Throughout his career, Highfield has secured notable victories, including beating Mark Selby at the English Open in 2016 and reaching the last 16 of the UK Championship in the same year.
After a period away from the professional circuit, Highfield regained his tour card in 2025 by winning the EBSA European Championship, defeating Michał Szubarczyk 5-0 in the final. This re-entry to the tour underlines his resilience and continued commitment to professional snooker. His highest world ranking achieved was 39 in May 2022, and he has maintained a competitive presence, reaching the quarter-finals of the Shoot Out in 2023. Highfield continues to compete in major tournaments, including the English Open and International Championship in 2025, consistently challenging higher-ranked players.
