Martin Devaney used to be a professional football player and now is a football coach. Born in 1980,he hails from the town of Cheltenham in England. However, internationally, he represented The Republic of Ireland in their under 16’s team due to his parents being of Irish descent. The rise in Martin’s career began at the team of his hometown, Cheltenham Town, following a short spell at Premier League club Coventry City.
At the age of just 20, he became the first player of his team to score a hat trick in the football league. In 2005, Martins time at Cheltenham came to an end when joined Watford before then joining Barnsley.
Success came quickly to Martin during his time at Barnsley helping them in their quest to beat promotion. Following this promotion, he remained with the club taking part in magnificent victories against Premier League giants Chelsea and Liverpool.
His time with Barnsley eventually came to a conclusion in 2011 when he made a move to the north west club Tranmere Rovers, then Kidderminster, Hyde and finally Worcester City being his last club.However, that wouldn’t be the last Martin would see of Barnsley.
After leaving Worcester, he went on to acquire his A coaching license from UEFA. He then made his return back to Barnsley first as a Professional Development Coach before moving on to working with the Academy and Developmentsquads which is where he is currently.
