About

Andrew George Hinchcliffe, born on February 5, 1969, in Manchester, England, established himself as a professional footballer from 1986 to 2002. His early career began with Manchester City, where he played as a left-back. He was a key member of the Manchester City youth academy team that secured the club’s first FA Youth Cup trophy in 1986. During his time with Manchester City, he made 112 appearances and scored 8 goals, notably contributing to a 5-1 victory over Manchester United in 1989 where he was among the goal scorers. He then moved to Everton, where he achieved significant career milestones.

At Everton, Hinchcliffe played a total of 182 matches, scoring 7 goals, and was an integral part of the team that won the FA Cup in 1995. His performance at Everton also led to his selection for the England national team, where he earned seven caps between 1996 and 1998. His international debut occurred on September 1, 1996, in a 3-0 victory against Moldova. Following his tenure at Everton, Hinchcliffe joined Sheffield Wednesday in 1998, with the transfer costing £2.65 million. He made 86 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday, scoring 7 goals, before retiring from professional football in March 2002 due to a left knee injury.

After concluding his playing career, Hinchcliffe transitioned into media, becoming a television pundit and match summariser for Sky Sports. He provides co-commentary for Premier League, Championship, and Women’s Super League matches. Additionally, he appears on Sky Sports News to offer commentary on transfer news and recent football matches. Hinchcliffe has also leveraged his experience to train aspiring pundits, underscoring the demands of the profession.
