Mary Walsh is a Canadian actress, writer and comedian who is best known for her work on ‘This Hour Has 22 Minutes’, a popular CBC Canadian television comedy show that airs weekly. Walsh is recognised by many for her achievements in entertainment and media, having appeared in several widely viewed shows and films.
Walsh’s career began in sketch comedy, after studying theatre in Toronto. She became involved with the CODCO comedy troupe which evolved into a series which was aired on CBC television in the late 80s and 90s. Walsh began working with Rick Mercer in the early 90s, on the show ‘This Hour Has 22 Minutes’, the show was a huge success and received strong ratings. Other television credits include ‘Dooley Gardens’, ‘Hatching, Matching and Dispatching’, ‘Republic of Doyle’, ‘Little Dog’ and ‘Mary Walsh: Open Book’.
As well as making a name for herself in television, Walsh has featured and worked on several films including ‘Mambo Italian’, ‘Geraldine’s Fortune’, ‘Buried on Sunday’, ‘Young Triffie’, ‘The Grand Seduction’ and many more. Walsh has hosted many shows and events, in 2007 she hosted the Pride Toronto Gala & Awards ceremony and has hosted CBC’s ‘The Greatest Canadian’. Walsh published her debut novel in 2017, titled ‘Crying for the Moon’, which was positively received.
