Massimo Ambrosini was born on May 29, 1977, in Pesaro, Italy. He began his football career with Cesena, graduating to their first team at 17 during the 1994–95 season. His talent quickly caught the attention of AC Milan, who signed him the following year. Despite the competitive environment at Milan, Ambrosini featured in a few games as the team secured the Serie A championship in 1995–96. After a sporadic 1996–97 season, he was loaned to Vicenza, where he became a regular starter, helping the team avoid relegation and reaching the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup semi-final.

Returning to AC Milan, Ambrosini established himself as a key player, contributing to the Serie A championship win in 1999 and subsequently the Coppa Italia and UEFA Champions League triumphs in the 2002–03 season. His career at Milan was marked by multiple Serie A titles (1996, 1999, 2004, 2011) and two UEFA Champions League victories (2003, 2007). He also secured two UEFA Super Cups (2003, 2007) and the FIFA Club World Cup (2007). From 2009 to 2013, he served as AC Milan’s captain following Paolo Maldini’s retirement, extending his contract several times during his 18-year tenure with the club. His final season as a professional footballer was with Fiorentina in 2013–2014, where he made 30 appearances.

At the international level, Ambrosini represented Italy from 1999 to 2008, earning 35 caps. He participated in UEFA Euro 2000, where Italy reached the final, and UEFA Euro 2008, where they advanced to the quarter-finals. He also represented Italy at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Since retiring from playing, Ambrosini has become a pundit and football commentator for Sky Sport Italia.
