It’s difficult to imagine a better player at the position than the exciting young American right now, who was selected sixth overall by the Calgary Flames in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Internationally, the skilled winger helped the United States win gold in 2014 at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge and bronze at the 2016 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships.
Born in Scottsdale, Arizona, the gritty youngster comes from a strong hockey bloodline and is the son of Hall of Fame legend Keith Tkachuk and the brother of Ottawa Senators forward Brady Tkachuk. After playing for two seasons with the USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program in the USHL from 2013-2015, Tkachuk was picked by London Knights in the fourth round of the 2013 Ontario Hockey League draft.
In 2015-16 Tkachuk stood out in his rookie OHL season finishing fifth with 107 points in 57 games, and helped London to win both the OHL championship and the Memorial Cup. The Calgary Flames picked the young hockey star sixth overall in the 2016 NHL Draft. His breakout came in 2017-18 as he helped the Flames finish first in the Western Conference and win the Pacific Division.
