Matthew Tkachuk has developed into a top-tier NHL forward, recognized for his scoring ability and impactful play for the Florida Panthers. After scoring the game-winning goal in overtime to secure the 2016 Memorial Cup with the London Knights, Matthew Tkachuk established himself as an elite talent. In his 2015-16 OHL season, he finished fifth in league scoring with 107 points (30 goals, 77 assists) in 57 games and contributed 40 points in 18 playoff games to help the Knights clinch the OHL championship. Tkachuk’s international achievements include gold at the 2015 IIHF World U18 Championships and bronze at the 2016 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships.
Selected sixth overall by the Calgary Flames in the 2016 NHL Draft, he signed a three-year entry-level contract, making his NHL debut on October 12, 2016, and scoring his first goal six days later. In his 2016-17 rookie year, Tkachuk recorded 48 points (13 goals, 35 assists) in 76 games, finishing seventh in Calder Trophy voting. Tkachuk rapidly progressed with the Calgary Flames, reaching 100 NHL games by 2017 and named an alternate captain in 2018. He achieved his first career NHL hat-trick and 100th career NHL assist in 2019.
Demonstrating his international standing, he was selected for the prestigious 4 Nations Face-Off during the 2024-25 season, notably playing alongside his brother, Brady Tkachuk. Despite injuries during the 4 Nations Face-Off limiting his 2024-25 regular season to 52 games, he returned for the playoffs, tying for the team lead with 23 points (8 goals, 15 assists) in 23 games during their second championship victory.
