About

Megan Mullally was born on November 12, 1958, in Los Angeles, California. Her mother, Martha, was a model, and her father, Carter Mullally Jr., was a contract player for Paramount. She spent part of her childhood in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and studied ballet from a young age, performing with the Oklahoma City Ballet and attending the School of American Ballet in New York City. Mullally initially enrolled at Northwestern University to study English literature and art history, but her involvement in campus musicals led her to pursue acting professionally. She began her career with appearances in various theatrical productions in Chicago before moving to Los Angeles in 1985.

Mullally made her television debut in 1986 on “The Ellen Burstyn Show” and guest-starred in several popular sitcoms throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, including “Seinfeld,” “Frasier,” and “Mad About You.” A significant turning point in her career came in 1998 when she was cast as Karen Walker in the NBC sitcom “Will & Grace.” Her portrayal of the flamboyant assistant earned her widespread critical acclaim, including two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2000 and 2006, and three Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series.

Beyond her iconic role in “Will & Grace,” Mullally has maintained a consistent and varied career. She hosted “The Megan Mullally Show” from 2006 to 2007 and has been a series regular on shows like “Party Down,” “Childrens Hospital,” and “Breaking In.” Her voice acting credits include roles in “Bob’s Burgers,” “Bee Movie,” and “Hotel Transylvania 2.” On stage, Mullally has performed in several Broadway productions, including “Grease” and “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” She has also collaborated with her husband, Nick Offerman, on multiple projects, including the band Nancy and Beth, various television series, and their New York Times Bestselling book, “The Greatest Love Story Ever Told.”
