Of all the unique performers in today’s world, Merman Christian has to be one of the most interesting. He is a “professional merman” and aquatic performer who can hold his breath underwater for almost three minutes. He works all over the world, performing at shows, conventions, fundraisers, conferences, and more with two specific aims: to entertain and raise awareness of marine conservation issues. He has been featured on major outlets such as ABC, CBS, CNN, Comedy Central, and Insider and is popular on social media with tens of thousands of followers across the likes of Instagram and Facebook.
Merman Christian majored in Marine Biology at university and his passion for the health of the world’s oceans and the myriad millions of creatures and plantlife has carried over into his professional work. As well as volunteering at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, he has launched a new initiative called REFORMATION, which looks to raise global awareness about the harmful effects of coral bleaching on the environment. With his unique merman image, he’s one climate change activist it’s almost impossible to ignore.
