About

Michael Cera was born on June 7, 1988, in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, to parents Linda and Luigi Cera. His interest in acting began at an early age after repeatedly watching “Ghostbusters” (1984) during a childhood illness and memorizing its dialogue. This early fascination led him to take improvisation classes at The Second City Toronto. Cera’s professional career began with roles in commercials and television, securing his first significant part as Larrabe Hicks in the children’s show “I Was a Sixth Grade Alien” (1999–2001) and making his theatrical film debut in “Frequency” (2000). He gained widespread recognition for his role as George Michael Bluth in the critically acclaimed comedy series “Arrested Development,” which originally ran from 2003 to 2006 and was later revived by Netflix.

Following his breakthrough on television, Cera successfully transitioned into film, establishing himself with leading roles in several prominent comedic films. In 2007, he starred in “Superbad” as Evan and “Juno” as Paulie Bleeker, both of which garnered critical praise and solidified his image as a dry-witted, often naive, comedic lead. His filmography expanded with roles in “Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist” (2008), “Youth in Revolt” (2009), and as the eponymous hero in “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” (2010). Beyond acting, Cera is also a musician, playing guitar and bass, and released his debut album, “True That,” in 2014. He has also ventured into directing and producing, contributing to various short films and web series, showcasing his diverse talents within the entertainment industry.

Cera’s career demonstrates a steady progression marked by both critical and commercial successes across film, television, and theater. He has earned nominations for prestigious awards, including a British Academy Film Award and a Tony Award for his Broadway performance in “Lobby Hero” (2018). His recent work includes roles in “Barbie” (2023) as Allan and the TV series “Life & Beth” (2022–2024), alongside voice roles in animated projects like “The Lego Batman Movie” (2017) and “Sausage Party: Foodtopia” (2024). Cera continues to contribute to various projects, often collaborating as a writer and producer, further highlighting his multifaceted involvement in the creative process.
