Canadian writer, advisor, and speaker Michael Kaufman engages individuals internationally promoting and actioning for gender equality. While earning his PhD in Political Science from the University of Toronto he co-founded the Men for Women’s Choice campaign in 1989 and the White Ribbon Campaign in 1991. As a leader in various national and international networks of profeminist men, his efforts are aimed towards ending violence against women worldwide.
Kaufman sits on France’s G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council and contributes a lot of work for the United Nations system, including with UN WOMEN, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNDP, IFAD, and UNESCO. He’s worked with the International Red Cross, Amnesty International, Save the Children, and OXFAM – a charitable organization focused on global poverty. He wrote the training program on sexual harassment used by the United Nations, co-wrote of the State of the Worlds’ Fathers Report as a senior fellow at Instituto Promundo (Washington D.C.), and published eight books. His articles on democracy and development studies have been translated in many languages and circulated across countries.
Kaufman previously taught at York University in Toronto where he was Deputy Director of the Centre for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean. He has appeared on several newspapers as a guest writer such as The Guardian and the HuffPost. He’s been featured on Apple Podcasts and maintains a healthy presence on his Twitter account.
