Miralem Pjanić was born on April 2, 1990, in Tuzla, SR Bosnia and Herzegovina. His early exposure to football came through his father, a former third-division player. Pjanić’s family moved to Luxembourg before the Bosnian War, where he began his youth career with FC Schifflange 95 from 1997 to 2004. At age 14, he joined FC Metz’s academy in France, spending three years there and signing a five-year elite contract after winning the Championnat National des 16 ans in 2005–06. He made his professional debut with Metz’s senior team at 17 on August 18, 2007.

Pjanić’s professional career saw him move to Olympique Lyonnais in 2008 for €7.5 million, where he quickly became known for his set-piece prowess. In 2011, he transferred to AS Roma, where he developed into a recognized Serie A midfielder. His time with Juventus, starting in 2016 for €32 million, marked significant success, including four Serie A titles, two Coppa Italias, and a UEFA Champions League runner-up finish. He was consistently named in the Serie A Team of the Year during these periods, underscoring his impact in Italian football.

In 2020, Pjanić joined FC Barcelona in a notable transfer deal. He later had loan spells with Beşiktaş J.K. in Turkey and signed with UAE Pro League club Sharjah in 2022. In 2024, he moved to Russian Premier League club CSKA Moscow, where he won the Russian Cup. Pjanić also had a distinguished international career, representing Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2008 to 2024, accumulating 115 caps and participating in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the nation’s first major tournament.
