About

Nathaniel Eugene Burleson was born on August 19, 1981, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, while his father, Al Burleson, was playing for the Calgary Stampeders. He grew up in a family with a strong athletic background, with siblings who played college football and professional basketball. Burleson attended Lindbergh High School and later O’Dea High School in Seattle, Washington, where he was recognized as the Seattle Times City Athlete of the Year as a senior. He excelled in football and track and field, winning a state title in the 300-meter hurdles in 1999. Burleson hoped to play at the University of Washington but instead accepted a scholarship to the University of Nevada, Reno.

At the University of Nevada, Burleson played college football for the Nevada Wolf Pack. In the 2002 season, he achieved 138 receptions, which was the second-highest in NCAA history at the time. He led the NCAA in both receiving yards and receptions per game during his senior year. Throughout his college career, he accumulated 248 receptions for 3,293 yards and 22 touchdowns, earning first-team All-American honors in 2002. After his successful college career, Burleson was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft, marking the beginning of his professional football journey.

Burleson’s NFL career spanned from 2003 to 2013, with stints at the Minnesota Vikings (2003-2005), Seattle Seahawks (2006-2009), and Detroit Lions (2010-2013). Highlights include exceeding 1,000 receiving yards in 2004 with the Vikings and setting the Seahawks’ team record for most punt return yards in a single season in 2007, as well as career punt return yards. Following his retirement from the NFL in 2014, Burleson successfully transitioned into broadcasting. He became an analyst for the NFL Network, co-hosted ‘Good Morning Football,’ and later joined CBS as a co-host for ‘CBS Mornings’ and a commentator for ‘The NFL Today’ and Nickelodeon’s NFL coverage. He is a two-time Sports Emmy Award winner for Outstanding Studio Analyst (2021 and 2022).
