About

Andrea Nicole Livingstone, known professionally as Nic Stone, was born on July 10, 1985, in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia. She pursued higher education at Spelman College, where she earned a degree in Psychology. Before embarking on her writing career, Stone worked in teen mentoring and spent several years living in Israel. It was during a trip to Israel in 2008 that she recognized her passion for storytelling and decided to pursue writing.

Stone made her debut in 2017 with the young adult novel, ‘Dear Martin,’ which became a #1 New York Times bestseller. The book, inspired by the shooting of Jordan Davis, explores themes of racial profiling and social injustice through the story of a high school student writing letters to Martin Luther King Jr. This success was followed by other notable works, including ‘Odd One Out’ (2018), an NPR Best Book and ALA Rainbow Book Top Ten selection, and ‘Jackpot’ (2019). Nic Stone continued to expand her literary footprint with her middle grade debut, ‘Clean Getaway,’ in 2020, which also achieved New York Times bestseller status. The same year, she published ‘Shuri: A Black Panther Novel’ and a sequel to her debut, ‘Dear Justyce.’

Throughout her career, Stone has released multiple acclaimed novels, including ‘Fast Pitch’ (2021) and ‘Chaos Theory’ (2023), both garnering significant recognition such as YALSA Quick Pick Selections and Southern Book Prize finalist nominations. She has also co-authored books like ‘Blackout’ (2021) and ‘Whiteout’ (2022) and contributed to ‘How to Be a (Young) Antiracist’ (2023). In 2022, Stone hosted a six-episode podcast series titled ‘The History of Marvel Comics: Black Panther’ with Marvel and Sirius XM. Scheduled for future release are her adult novel ‘Boom Town’ (2025) and ‘Dear Manny’ (2025), further solidifying her diverse and prolific literary output across various genres and age groups.
