So You Think You Can Dance Canada’s inaugural season was won by Canadian dancer and choreographer Nicolas “Nico” Archambault in 2008. After winning, he shot to fame as the lead actor in 2011’s On the Beat (Sur le rythme), a Canadian film. Archambault was given the opportunity to perform with Janet Jackson at the 2009 American Music Awards as part of her “Make Me” music video. In the same year, he portrayed Rudolf Nureyev, a teenage Russian dancer, in the Bravo! television film Nureyev. For his work on the show, he was nominated for a Gemini Award, which recognises excellence in the performing arts.
Archambault is the artistic director of the electro-pop band The Pinup Saints, with his wife Wynn Holmes as the main vocalist, and works with the choreography firm Street Parade. “Mister” and “Halo” music videos by The Pinup Saints also featured him. In Montreal’s Beau Dommage Théâtre Saint-Denis, he choreographed the musical comedy Le Blues d’la Métropole, directed by Serge Denoncourt in 2010. Serge Denoncourt accompanied him on a journey to Belgrade, Serbia, where they taught modern dance to Romani youths. As a dance-based educational and creative endeavour, GRUBB The Musical was created to support the next generation of gypsy artists. At the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the prepared composition was presented. In 2016, Archambault produced the music video for the single Shields by the Canadian electronic music artist Foxtrott.
