Oumar Kane was born on March 14, 1992, in Thiaroye sur Mer, Senegal. Raised as one of six siblings, he began practicing “mbapatte” wrestling, a traditional Senegalese style, at the age of 16. With family support, Kane honed his skills in a Serer village before returning to Dakar at age 20. There, he became a prominent figure in “lutte avec frappe,” a form of striking wrestling, achieving an undefeated 16-0 record at Stade Demba Diop Stadium against leading Senegalese athletes. His success in traditional wrestling laid a foundation for his subsequent career.
Kane transitioned to mixed martial arts (MMA) in 2019, quickly gaining international attention due to his physique and wrestling background. This led to his signing with ONE Championship, where he made his promotional debut in 2021. In his first ONE Championship fight, he defeated four-time Muay Thai and Kickboxing World Champion Alain Ngalani within a single round. His fighting style, characterized by immense physical strength and aggressive performances, has made him a fan favorite in the organization’s heavyweight division.
He continued an impressive run at ONE Championship, securing victories against notable opponents such as Batradz Gazzaev in 2022 and Marcus Almeida in 2023, the latter earning him a “Performance of the Night” bonus. His career culminated in November 2024 when he defeated Anatoly Malykhin via split decision at ONE 169 to claim the ONE Heavyweight World Championship. Kane is scheduled to defend his heavyweight title in a rematch against Anatoly Malykhin in November 2025 at ONE 173, further solidifying his position as a dominant force in combat sports.
