Peaches Christ, also known as Joshua Grannell, is an iconic American drag performer, actor and filmmaker, best known for their popular midnight movie event, Midnight Mass,
San Francisco-born Peaches developed their performance and filmmaking shills while studying at Penn State University. In Peaches’ final year, their senior thesis film Jizzmopper: A Love Story won the audience award at the annual Penn State Student Film Festival. It was during the production of this film that the character of Peaches Christ was born.
Peaches gained recognition for the creation of Midnight Mass, a cult-movie event hosted at the Castro in San Francisco. The event was known for its pre-show productions featuring drag shows and elaborate on-stage performances starring the likes of RuPaul and John Waters. Drawing over 1,000 patrons to each show, the 10th-Annual Season was filmed for television, with a six-part series following Peaches preceding the film screenings.
Outside of Midnight Mass, Peaches has appeared in numerous television shows and movies, including VH1’s Totally Gay!, AMC’s Movies That Shook the World: Pink Flamingos, IFC’s Cult Movies, Gus Van Sant’s Milk, The Diary of a Teenage Girl, and Scott Boswell’s Spin The Bottle, which centred on the goings-on behind the scenes at Midnight Mass. On stage, Peaches has toured with her shows An Evening With Peaches Christ, Drag Becomes Her, and Addams Apple Family Values, among others. In 2020, they starred as Madame Bouchard in It Listens from the Radio.
A renowned performer and creator, there is nothing Peaches can’t do. From co-producing the San Francisco Underground Short Film Festival with Vinsantos, to releasing a debut single, Idol Worship, to directing Natasha Lyonne in horror film All About Evil as Grannell, Peaches is a born star. They continue to perform on stage in drag shows, including on the Trannyshack stage where they first found fame in the 1990s.
