Peter Beardsley was an unmistakable figure throughout his professional football playing career, dribbling and shimmying up the wing countless times for his beloved Liverpool. His career started in 1979 and ended in 1999 and in that time he set a record transfer fee in the English game when Kenny Dalglish paid Newcastle £1.9m for Beardsley’s services in July 1987. Alongside John Barnes and John Aldridge, the trio were a formidable football force and in his time with Liverpool Peter scored 46 goals in 131 games. He also played for sides including Newcastle, Bolton Wanderers, Fulham, Manchester United, Carlisle, Hartlepool and Melbourne Knights.
Some of the honours picked up by Beardsley include winning the FA Cup, coming 4th in the 1990 World Cup with England, being inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2007, being in the PFA Team of the Year in both 1990 and 1994 and also a number of Charity Shields and Football League First Division titles. Beardsley was also a regular fixture on the international scene with 59 appearances and nine goals for England to his name. Following his retirement from the game, Peter was briefly installed as caretaker manager of Newcastle United in 2010 and is now an in demand guest speaker, footballing expert and brand ambassador who lights up any occasion from business functions to charity dinners.
