Peter Wright, affectionately known as “Snakebite,” is a Scottish professional darts player who currently ranks No. 11 in the world within the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). A two-time world champion, Wright claimed the prestigious PDC World Darts Championship titles in 2020 and 2022. In addition to his world championships, he is a World Matchplay champion and has reached the pinnacle of the sport by being ranked World No. 1 twice in 2022.
Wright’s journey in darts began at a young age, but after qualifying for the 1995 BDO World Darts Championship at just 24, he stepped away from professional play to focus on work as a builder and tyre fitter, competing only in local leagues. It wasn’t until his late 30s that he returned to the professional circuit, starting his first full schedule of PDC events in 2008. By 2010, he qualified for his first PDC World Championship and made significant strides, entering the top 16 in 2013 and reaching his first world final in 2014, where he was the runner-up to Michael van Gerwen.
Wright’s breakthrough came with his first major title at the 2017 UK Open, and as of September 2024, he has won 14 televised events, including eight major titles. With a total of 34 PDC Pro Tour victories, he ranks fourth on the all-time list, and his overall PDC title count stands at 48.
Known for his flamboyant style, Wright captivates audiences with his colorful attire and distinctive multicolored Mohican hairstyles, crafted by his wife, Joanne. He energizes the stage with a sidestep dance before matches, often accompanied by Pitbull’s “Don’t Stop the Party.” With his vibrant personality and undeniable talent, Peter Wright continues to be a prominent figure in the world of darts.
