Polly James was born in Cardiff, Wales, in 1987. She grew up in areas such as Llanishen, Rhiwbina, Thornhill, and Penarth, attending Stanwell Comprehensive in Penarth. Her early career also included a background in athletics, where she competed for Wales and GB Juniors, demonstrating a competitive spirit from a young age. James began her broadcasting journey in community radio, working at stations like Afan FM and Bridge FM, which laid the foundation for her future in radio.
Her professional career took off with Nation Radio Wales before she moved to Absolute Radio in the early 2010s, where she presented an overnight show. A significant career move occurred in 2013 when she joined Capital South Wales, eventually co-hosting the breakfast show.
