Rangers and footballing legend, Richard Gough, won the Scottish Premier Division a humongous nine times with footballing institution Rangers. He also won the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup a combined nine times for the club, making him one of the most decorated players to ever play in Scotland. Unsurprisingly, he is in the Scottish Football Hall of Fame, and was also awarded SPFA Players’ Player of the Year and SFWA Footballer of the Year during the peak of his playing days. He also won the Rous Cup with Scotland, and was capped 61 times.
Gough was first noticed by a range of top clubs in the successful Dundee United team of the early 80’s, where he won the Scottish league title and reached the European Cup semi-final, which was a huge achievement for the club. Gough went on to captain Tottenham Hotspur in the 1987 FA Cup Final, further cementing himself as one of the best players in Europe. His true glory days came when he made the move to Rangers, winning a ton of trophies and helping the Scottish club to become one of the most feared teams in Europe. After dominating Scottish Football for a lengthy amount of time, Gough went on to enjoy spells in the US for San Jose Clash and Kansas City Wizards, before ending his spectacular career at Everton.
Gough is now back with his beloved Rangers, where he is a global ambassador for the club. Gough’s connection with the Scottish super club will live on. Only a few players that have ever graced a football pitch can match the amount of major titles that he has won.
