Richard Susskind is an independent advisor to governments and law firms, and is a specialist on the subject of legal technology. He is also an author and a speaker.
After graduating with a first in law from the University of Glasgow, Susskind went on to do his doctorate at the University of Oxford. He co-founded the Centre for Law, Computers and Technology in 1990 at the University of Strathclyde, where he was appointed visiting professor. In 2001, he took on a part-time professorship role at the University’s Law School, but that’s not the only professorship he holds. He also teaches at UCL, Gresham College and Oxford.
Susskind has been an advisor for many government inquiries, as well as being the previous IT Adviser for the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales. He now serves on numerous advisory boards, including the Society for Computers and Law, the Online Dispute Resolution Advisory Group of the Civil Justice Council and the Oxford Internet Institute. He has published nine books on the subject of law and technology, and is a regular writer for The Times. He regularly delivers talks and lectures internationally on his area of expertise, and has spoken in front of audiences in over 40 countries. As well as numerous legal awards, in 2000 he was awarded an OBE for his services to IT in the Law and to the Administration of Justice. He continues to do pioneering work, changing the future of the legal profession with his research and insight.
