Ali Zafar

Born on May 18, 1980, in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan, Ali Zafar began his artistic journey as a sketch artist at the Pearl Continental Hotel in Lahore. His parents, Mohammad Zafarullah and Kanwal Ameen, were professors at the University of Punjab. He received his education from C.A.A. Public School, Government College University, Lahore, and the National College of Arts. Zafar initially gained public recognition through his acting roles in Pakistani television serials, including “Kollege Jeans,” “Kanch Ke Par,” and “Landa Bazar.” This early exposure laid the groundwork for his subsequent career in music and film.

Zafar’s music career commenced with his debut album “Huqa Pani” in 2003, featuring the hit single “Channo.” This album achieved significant commercial success, selling over five million copies worldwide and earning him numerous awards, including the Lux Style Award for “Best Album” in 2004 and “Best Male Artist” at the MTV awards in 2008. His innovative approach to music established new benchmarks for Pakistan’s music industry. He further released two more albums, “Masty” in 2006 and “Jhoom” in 2011, both of which achieved critical acclaim and commercial success, with the latter winning the 2012 Lux Style Award for “Best Music Album.” His song “Dekha” from the “Masty” album was featured in the Hollywood film “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.”

In 2010, Ali Zafar ventured into Bollywood with a leading role in the film “Tere Bin Laden.” His performance received industry recognition, including a Filmfare Best Male Debut Award nomination. He continued to star in successful Bollywood productions such as “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan” (2011), “London, Paris, New York” (2012), “Chashme Baddoor” (2013), “Kill Dil” (2014), and “Dear Zindagi” (2016), becoming the first Pakistani actor to achieve mainstream success in lead roles in Bollywood. He also expanded his acting career into Lollywood with “Teefa in Trouble” (2018), which he co-wrote and produced. Beyond entertainment, Zafar is involved in humanitarian efforts as the chair of The Ali Zafar Foundation, focusing on women’s education and empowerment, and serving as an ambassador for Girl Rising.
