Rob Gronkowski, an American former football tight end, played in the National Football League for 11 seasons. Born on May 14, 1989, in Amherst, New York, Gronkowski grew up in a household of athletes. His father, Gordon Gronkowski, played football at Syracuse, while his brothers Dan and Chris played pro football and baseball respectively.
Nicknamed “Gronk”, the football star’s career began while he was a student-athlete at the University of Arizona. In college, the tight end had a tremendous work ethic that saw him finish his career averaging 14.5 yards per catch, and record 16 touchdowns. In 2010, he was drafted in the second round by the New England Patriots and quickly became one of the most feared and productive tight ends in NFL history.
During his nine seasons with the Patriots, Gronkowski put up impressive numbers, which included 78 touchdowns, 7,861 receiving yards, and 521 catches. He was an instrumental player in helping the Patriots win five Super Bowls and was a four-time First-team All-Pro. Despite his impressive statistics, “Gronk” matured into more than just a talented athlete. The fan-favorite was known for his infectious personality, spirit of camaraderie, and commitment to philanthropy, which made him incredibly popular amongst both Patriots and non-Patriots fans.
After retiring in 2019, Gronkowski came out of retirement in 2020, and played his final two seasons for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With his former teammate Tom Brady as quarterback, Gronkowski was part of the Bucs team that won Super Bowl LV in his final season. He finished his career with an incredible 79 touchdowns, and will forever be remembered as one of the NFL’s all-time greats.
Off the field, Gronkowski continues to make a difference in the world by contributing to several charity and community outreach programs. With his larger than life personality, Gronk has solidified his place among football’s all-time greats both on and off the field.
