About

Robert Allen Wiethoff was born on September 15, 1976, in Seymour, Indiana. He pursued higher education at Indiana University Bloomington, graduating in 1999 with a degree in general studies. Following his graduation, Wiethoff moved to Los Angeles with aspirations of an acting career, where he secured minor roles in independent films and television commercials. A significant turning point in his career occurred in December 2008 when he was cast by Rockstar Games to voice John Marston, the protagonist in the critically acclaimed video game “Red Dead Redemption.” Wiethoff devoted almost two years to this project, which involved extensive performance capture work.

After the release of “Red Dead Redemption” in 2010, Rob Wiethoff moved back to Seymour, Indiana, to focus on his family. He briefly returned to acting for the game’s downloadable content, “Undead Nightmare,” recorded in New York City. Throughout this period, he engaged in various jobs, including working at an industrial supplies company and in construction, prioritizing time with his family. In 2014, Rockstar Games sought his return for “Red Dead Redemption 2,” a prequel to the original. Initially expecting a year-long commitment, his role expanded significantly over nearly four years, ultimately making John Marston a playable character once again. This commitment led him to leave his construction job to dedicate himself fully to the project.

Wiethoff’s work on “Red Dead Redemption” earned him the Outstanding Character Performance award at the 14th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards. His performance as John Marston was also recognized with a nomination for Best Performance by a Human Male at the 2010 Spike Video Game Awards. Beyond his notable video game roles, Wiethoff has appeared in films such as “16 Blocks” (2006) and “Double Tap” (2011), and voiced Lazarus in the interactive radio drama “Codename Cygnus” (2013). More recently, he contributed an undisclosed voice role to the film “Lulu and the Electric Dreamboat” (2024), demonstrating his continued involvement in diverse acting projects.
