About

Rose Byrne was born Mary Rose Byrne on July 24, 1979, in Balmain, Sydney, Australia. She began her acting career at 15 with her first film role in “Dallas Doll” (1994). Throughout the 1990s, she appeared in Australian television shows such as “Heartbreak High” (1994) and “Echo Point” (1995), and gained further recognition for her role in “Two Hands” (1999) alongside Heath Ledger. Her early career highlights include a leading role in “The Goddess of 1967” (2000), which earned her the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival. This early success marked her talent and set the foundation for her international career. She also notably appeared as Dormé, handmaiden to Natalie Portman’s Padmé Amidala, in “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones” (2002).

Byrne transitioned to Hollywood with roles in films like “I Capture the Castle” (2003) and the epic drama “Troy” (2004), where she played Briseis alongside Brad Pitt. She continued to build her filmography with projects such as “Wicker Park” (2004) and Danny Boyle’s science fiction film “Sunshine” (2007). Her breakthrough came with the legal thriller television series “Damages” (2007–2012), for which she received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations and two Golden Globe Award nominations. Known for her dramatic work initially, Byrne consciously shifted towards comedic roles in the late 2000s, proving her range and establishing herself in a new genre.

Her comedic talents were showcased in films like “Get Him to the Greek” (2010), “Bridesmaids” (2011), and “Neighbors” (2014), where her performances were critically praised. She also maintained her presence in other genres, starring in the successful horror franchise “Insidious” (2010–2023) and appearing in the “X-Men” film series (2011–2016) as Moira MacTaggert. In recent years, Byrne has continued to take on varied roles in both film and television, including the series “Physical” (2021–2023) and “Platonic” (2023–present). Her consistently strong performances and ability to embody diverse characters demonstrate her lasting impact in the entertainment industry.
