Olympic silver medalist and two-time world champion Rossella Fiamingo is a left-handed épée fencer from Italy. Fiamingo, a three-time Olympian, won the Olympic silver medal for an individual in 2016 and the bronze medal for a team in 2021. Fiamingo took part in competitions at the Olympic Games in London in 2012, Rio de Janeiro in 2016, and Tokyo in 2021. She won back-to-back world championships in women’s individual épée at the 2015 world championships in Moscow. The only other women with multiple global titles in this competition were Mariann Horvath (HUN, 1991 and 1992) and Flessel-Colovic (1998 and 1999).
Fiamingo joined the Italian senior national team in 2010–11. She won a bronze medal in Doha the following year, then a gold medal in Rio de Janeiro, helping her reach her first World Cup podium. She and her team qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics, however she lost to Sun Yujie of China 14–15 in the individual event’s quarterfinals. Italy lost to Romania in the ranking matches and ended seventh in the team competition after being defeated by the United States in the opening round. Fiamingo won the World Championships in 2013–14, defeating Olympic winners Yana Shemyakina and Britta Heidemann along route. She also took home the world cup during the 2014–2015 campaign.
In the women’s épée competition at the 2022 European Fencing Championships in Antalya, Turkey, Fiamingo took home the silver medal. In the women’s épée competition at the 2022 World Fencing Championships in Cairo, Egypt, she took home one of the bronze medals. Fiamingo has studied nutrition at the University of Catania and has a degree in piano.
