Following her breakout role as an MTV Australia VJ in 2007, secured after competing against 2000 candidates in a national search, Ruby Rose quickly became a prominent figure in entertainment. During this period, she was named the face of Maybelline New York in Australia and co-hosted popular television shows including Australia’s Next Top Model and The Project on Network Ten. Her acting debut came in the Australian film Suite for Fleur in 2008. Rose’s versatility was further recognized with an ASTRA Award for Favourite Female Personality in 2009.
She expanded her ventures into fashion, collaborating with Milk and Honey for a fashion line in 2010, and ventured into music, releasing her first single ‘Guilty Pleasure’ in 2012. Rose also appeared in the film Around the Block in 2013, solidifying her diverse artistic portfolio. A significant turning point in her acting career was the self-produced short film, Break Free, released in 2014, which garnered millions of views online and played a pivotal role in securing her wider representation. In 2015, Rose achieved global recognition with her role as inmate Stella Carlin in seasons three and four of the acclaimed Netflix series Orange Is the New Black, a performance that was widely well-received.
That same year, she co-hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards. Her rising profile led to becoming the face of Urban Decay Cosmetics in 2016, and she was honored with the GLAAD Stephen F. Kolzak Award in 2016 for her LGBTQ+ advocacy. Rose then transitioned into prominent roles within major action films, including Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016), xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017), and John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017).
