Ruggero Tita was born on March 20, 1992, in Rovereto, Italy. His sailing career began at a young age, joining the Italian national team at 12. He quickly demonstrated talent, becoming an Italian champion in the Optimist class by age 13, and also achieving European Team Race and Swiss Open titles. After completing his lower secondary education, Tita transitioned into skiff classes, competing in the 29er Youth World Championships and later the 49er class, where he secured multiple national titles. He made his Olympic debut in the 49er at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, finishing 14th with Pietro Zucchetti. Tita also holds a degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Trento, applying a data-driven methodology to his training and performance.
In 2017, Tita partnered with Caterina Banti in the Nacra 17 class, marking a significant turning point in his career. Their collaboration quickly yielded impressive results, including a bronze medal at the World Cup and a gold at the European Championship in their first year together. They continued their success by securing another European title and their first World Championship in 2018. This partnership culminated in an Olympic gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics in the mixed multihull class, making them the first-ever male and female Italian athletes to win gold together in sailing.
