Ryan Belleville was born on May 8, 1979, in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. He later grew up in Calgary, Alberta. He began his career in comedy, becoming the youngest person to tape his own ‘Comedy Now!’ special for CTV. His early work also included appearances on CBC’s ‘The Sean Cullen Show’ and a role as ‘Slime Master Ryan’ on the YTV series ‘Uh Oh!’. These initial experiences established him in the Canadian entertainment industry as both a comedian and an actor.
Belleville’s career progressed with notable roles in television and film. In 2004, he portrayed Eddie in the Disney Channel Original Movie ‘Stuck in the Suburbs’ and appeared in the film ‘Going the Distance.’ He also had a recurring role as Jasper in the Fox TV series ‘Life on a Stick’ in 2005. A significant career milestone came in 2011 when he co-wrote and starred in the Canadian sitcom ‘Almost Heroes,’ where he also served as an executive producer for 8 episodes. He lent his voice to Holger Holghart in the Teletoon animated show ‘Detentionaire’ from 2011 to 2015 for 53 episodes. From 2017 to 2023, Belleville was a cast member on the Netflix/CBC Television comedy series ‘Workin’ Moms,’ playing the character Lionel Carlson for 66 episodes.
His work extends to writing and producing, contributing to shows like ‘Overlord and the Underwoods’ as a co-executive producer for 20 episodes (2021-2022) and a writer for 3 episodes. He has also written for ‘Satisfaction’ (8 episodes, 2013) and ‘Still Standing’ as a story consultant (2017). Belleville is an experienced stand-up comedian, having performed eight times at the Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal, and multiple times at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival and the Halifax Comedy Fest. He has received awards for his comedic talent, including the Phil Hartman Award and a Canadian Comedy Award. In a notable community effort in June 2016, he co-hosted a 12-hour telethon that raised funds for Canadian Red Cross to assist victims of the Fort McMurray wildfires. He is currently working on an upcoming Paramount+ Canada series, ‘Hate the Player: The Ben Johnson Story,’ where he plays multiple roles, and plans to release a comedy special titled ‘Citizen Nowhere’ in October. He has also participated in the podcast ‘Quitting Made Real’ by Nicorette, discussing his past smoking addiction.
