Said Taghmaoui

Saïd Taghmaoui was born on July 19, 1973, in Villepinte, Seine-Saint-Denis, France, to Moroccan immigrant parents. He is one of nine siblings. Taghmaoui left school at an early age and pursued a career in boxing, achieving a notable ranking of second in France within his weight category. His entry into the film industry began when he co-wrote the French film “La haine” (1995) with Mathieu Kassovitz. He also starred in this film, which gained critical acclaim, winning the Best Director award at Cannes. This project marked a significant turning point in his career.

Following his breakthrough in “La haine,” Saïd Taghmaoui expanded his acting career internationally, working in various film productions across Italy, Germany, the United States, and Morocco. He maintained a strong presence in French cinema. His career progression includes notable roles such as Captain Said in “Three Kings” (1999), Breaker in “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” (2009), Sameer in “Wonder Woman” (2017), and The Elder in “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” (2019). These roles highlight his versatility and consistent engagement in major film productions across different countries.

Taghmaoui moved to the United States in 1999 and became an American citizen in 2008. His filmography reflects a sustained career including roles in “The Kite Runner” (2007), “Vantage Point” (2008), and several television series like “Lost” and “Touch.” He has cultivated a career that spans multiple languages and cultural contexts, establishing him as an actor with a diverse body of work in both independent and commercial films.
