Jim Kleinsasser was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round (44th overall pick) of the 1999 NFL Draft, establishing him as the highest NFL Draft pick in University of North Dakota history. His impressive collegiate career with the North Dakota Fighting Sioux from 1995 to 1998 saw him earn three first-team All-North Central Conference (NCC) selections from 1996 to 1998, and twice named a Division II All-American in 1997 and 1998. In 1998, Kleinsasser was the sole Division II football player to be selected as a Gannett News Service All-American.
