Savinho has signed a new long-term contract at Manchester City, in a deal that will extend the winger's stay at the Etihad through to 2031. He was signed from Troyes in a deal reportedly worth £30.8 million, having been part of the City Football Group.
Savinho was transferred to the City Football Group for €6.5 million in 2022, initially assigned to Troyes, then loaned to PSV and Girona, both also CFG clubs, before joining Manchester City.
Savinho signed a 1-year loan deal with Girona in Spain from City Group and was officially presented in July 2023. He played a crucial role in Girona's successful 2023-24 season.
Born Sávio Moreira de Oliveira on April 10, 2004, in São Mateus, a small municipality on Brazil’s east coast, Savinho spent his early years on his family’s farm. His football journey began when he joined Atlético Mineiro’s youth setup at age 10. He quickly progressed through the ranks, signing his first professional contract with Atlético Mineiro on June 18, 2020, at just 16 years old. His senior debut followed on September 20, 2020, in a 4-3 victory against Atlético Clube Goianiense, and he scored his first professional goal in May 2022 during a Copa Libertadores match against Independiente del Valle. During his time at Atlético Mineiro, Savinho was part of the squad that secured a triple crown in 2021, winning the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, Copa do Brasil, and Campeonato Mineiro. In October 2021, The Guardian recognized him as one of the 60 most promising young players globally.
In June 2022, Savinho was transferred to the City Football Group for 6.5 million euros, initially assigned to Troyes. He subsequently experienced loan spells with PSV Eindhoven for the 2022–23 season and Girona for the 2023–24 season. His time at Girona was particularly impactful, where he finished with nine goals and 10 assists in 37 games, making him the player with the most successful dribbles in La Liga with 104. This stellar performance earned him a spot in the La Liga Team of the Season. His impressive club career also extends to the international level, where he was a key player for Brazil’s U15 team, winning the 2019 South American U-15 Championship and scoring four goals. He later contributed to the U20 team, scoring in the U20 World Cup in 2023. His consistent performance led to his senior national team debut against England at Wembley in March 2024. He has since earned seven caps and scored his first senior international goal during the 2024 Copa América campaign.
Savinho’s career reached a new milestone when he officially joined Premier League club Manchester City on July 18, 2024, in a transfer reportedly worth £30.8 million. He made his debut for Manchester City on August 10, winning the 2024 Community Shield. He scored his first Premier League goal on December 29 in a 2-0 victory against Leicester City and subsequently made two assists in a 4-1 win over West Ham United on January 4, 2025. On January 29, he scored his first UEFA Champions League goal against Club Brugge, contributing to Manchester City’s qualification for the knockout phase play-offs. Savinho has extended his contract with Manchester City until 2031, reinforcing his commitment to the club and his future in top-tier football.
