Sellma Soul, a Brisbane drag queen, has thrilled coach Boy George and the crowd on The Voice Australia with her performances. Sellma has been on the lookout for a more reality and nuances in her performance self-expression and has infused her songs with a unique and delectable flavor of liberty. Collaboration with Sunshine Coast songwriter/producer Tim Aitken (Sametime) has resulted in the creation of a new universe overflowing with dark nonsense, vibrant color, and naked honesty.
As a child, Sellma unfortunately suffered years of bullying, to the point where she pondered fleeing home as a youngster with the goal of finding someone who would welcome her. She was tormented so brutally after coming out at the age of 13 that she was forced to eat lunch with her teachers for her own protection, and one especially nasty physical attack landed her in the hospital. Despite the abuse, she refused to skip school, despite the fact that she frequently returned home in tears and characterized the period as the most unpleasant of her life.
Due to the lack of portrayal of queerness on Australian media, Sellma believes that far too many people view gay people as caricatures or the punch line of jokes and has revealed that she continues to receive homophobic harassment and threats simply for going down the street. However, Sellma also feels the love from her fans on Instagram, where she boasts almost 8,000 followers. In 2021 she announced several shows in South East Queensland in support of her new single releases.
