After securing a silver medal at the 2017 World U23 Wrestling Championship in Bydgoszcz in the 59 kg category, Sergey Emelin went on to establish himself as a decorated Greco-Roman wrestler, competing in the highly competitive 60 kg weight class. Emelin claimed a gold medal at the European Wrestling Championships in Kaspiysk, demonstrating exceptional skill by defeating his opponents without conceding a single point en route to the final, where he ultimately overcame Murad Mammadov.
