About

Seth Rudetsky was born on February 28, 1967, in Queens, New York, and grew up in North Woodmere, New York. He pursued a robust musical education, graduating from Hewlett High School and later from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in 1988 with a degree in Piano Performance. Early in his career, Rudetsky demonstrated his versatility, contributing as a comedy writer for “The Rosie O’Donnell Show,” which earned him three Emmy Award nominations. He also lent his writing talents to the Grammy Award shows in 1999 and 2000.

Rudetsky’s career expanded significantly into performance and radio. He began hosting “Seth’s Big Fat Broadway” and “Seth Speaks” on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio’s “On Broadway,” where he shares his extensive knowledge of Broadway theatre. He is also recognized for his one-man show, “Rhapsody in Seth” (2003), and his acting roles in Off-Off-Broadway and regional productions, including “Torch Song Trilogy” (2006) and “The Ritz” (2007). In 2020, alongside his husband James Wesley, he co-created “Stars in the House,” a daily live-streamed web series, to support The Actors Fund during the coronavirus pandemic.

His creative contributions extend to musical theater writing, including co-writing the musical comedy “Disaster!” with Jack Plotnick, which premiered Off-Broadway in 2013 and later moved to Broadway’s Nederlander Theatre in 2016. Rudetsky has also authored several books, such as “The Q Guide to Broadway” (2006) and young adult novels “My Awesome/Awful Popularity Plan” (2012) and “The Rise and Fall of a Theater Geek” (2015). Throughout his career, he has consistently showcased his talents as a musician, accompanying Broadway stars like Patti LuPone and composing opening numbers for the Tony Awards in 1998 and 2000.
