Nathan Maloley, known as SK8, born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1995, developed an early interest in hip-hop and sports. By his teenage years, he was writing lyrics and distributing CDs in high school. His formative musical influences spanned from Bob Marley to hip-hop artists such as 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, Nelly, and Wiz Khalifa. A pivotal moment occurred in 2011 when attending a Wiz Khalifa concert, which inspired him to pursue a music career on a larger scale. Utilizing social media platforms, he began to build an online presence through videos and mixtapes.
In 2015, Maloley relocated to Los Angeles to advance his music career. This move coincided with significant achievements, including performances as an opening act for notable artists such as Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, and Rae Sremmurd. That same year, he collaborated with Jack & Jack on the track “Like That,” which later achieved RIAA certified-gold status. The year 2016 marked a productive period for SK8, as he released three projects, establishing himself as a consistent artist. His efforts also earned him a nomination for a Teen Choice Award, making him the only independent artist to receive such a nomination that year.
His career further progressed in early 2018 when he partnered with Taylor Gang Management, co-founded his own imprint, Alignment, and secured a joint venture with Atlantic Records through James McMillan’s ART@WAR. Through these partnerships, SK8 aimed to amplify his message to a broader audience. In 2021, he released the project “Pages,” which explored themes of rebellion, relationships, and nostalgia, incorporating punk influences into his usual genre-fusing style. This project was conceived as a personal narrative reflecting on personal struggles and growth. SK8 continues to release music, emphasizing authenticity and resilience.
