Sam and Teagan Rybka are dancing twins who floored the judges and the audience on Australia’s Got Talent back in 2013. With their synchronised contortion routines, they eased themselves through to the semifinals, with one judge calling their performance in the penultimate round “too perfect”. In the near-decade since they first shot to fame down under, they have remained massively popular, and have gained a worldwide fanbase through platforms such as TikTok where they currently have an incredible 13.8 million followers and a sensational 383 million likes for their content. They also have over 7.5 million YouTube subscribers and over 1.1 million Instagram followers.
Now in their mid-twenties, the Rybka twins were teenagers when their acrobatic skills first shot them to prominence on the seventh season of Australia’s Got Talent back in 2013. They came within touching distance of the final, but even their most spectacular contortions couldn’t win them the Judge’s Vote and so they gracefully bowed out. Buoyed by their experience, however, the Perth-based siblings kept performing, entering competitions, and most importantly for the world, posting content.
The 2020s are a time when unique performers no longer have to beg their way onto talent shows in order to build an audience, they can do it themselves through social media. Even if they’d never set foot on television, the Rybka Twins would certainly have found their audience online anyway, as their fantastic dance and acrobatic skills mix with relatable short-form comedy content to entertain young audiences all over the world.
