Canadian actress Teryl Rothery is best known for playing Dr Janet Fraiser in the classic 1990s sci-fi show, Stargate SG-1. Rothery played Dr Fraiser in eight of the show’s ten seasons between 1997 and 2006, winning a Leo Award nomination in 2004 for the part. Since leaving the show, she has remained successful thanks to diverse roles such as Grace Sherman in the Hallmark Channel series Cedar Cove, Jean Lorig in Arrow, and her current role as actress Muriel in the Canadian romantic streaming drama, Virgin River.
Rothery’s entertainment career began when she started taking dance lessons aged nine. She appeared in various theatre productions before beginning to work in television and film in the early 1990s. Some of her early roles included providing English voices for dubs of Japanese cartoons, but she also made live-action appearances in shows such as The X Files and Outer Limits. Her break came in 1997 when she was cast as Dr Fraiser in Stargate SG-1, a show that became hugely popular across Europe and Australia, won numerous awards, and inspired several spin-offs.
Rothery may have established herself with Stargate, but in the years since the show, she has been busier than ever, playing role after role in shows, films, and even video games. She has won further Leo nominations for her performances in the likes of The Collector, The Guard, and Coffee Diva, and has played an increasing number of recurring roles, with other examples including that of Celia Hudson in the first two seasons of the CW drama series, Nancy Drew.
