The Filharmonic

The Filharmonic is an LA-based a cappella group composed of Filipino-American vocalists. The group, consisting of Vj Rosales, Joe Caigoy, Trace Gaynor, Jules Cruz (vocal bass), and Niko Del Rey (beatboxer), first gained prominence as semi-finalists on NBC’s musical competition ‘The Sing-Off’. Following their television appearance, they embarked on ‘The Sing-Off’ national tour, expanding their audience. Their early work established their unique blend of hip hop, pop, and R&B a cappella style.

Building on their initial success, The Filharmonic was featured in Universal Pictures’ film ‘Pitch Perfect 2’. This contributed to a viral sensation after their appearance on “The Late Late Show.” The group continued to perform extensively, executing countless national and international shows. In 2016, they performed on more than 150 college stages nationwide and were recognized as the number one college-booked entertainment group of the year. Their musical collaborations include performances with artists such as John Legend and Shawn Mendes. Individually, members like Trace Gaynor have contributed to the group’s social media and video editing, while others like Jules Cruz and Joe Caigoy bring diverse vocal backgrounds and academic pursuits in environmental biology and vocal performance, respectively. Niko Del Rey contributes a hip-hop rooted beatboxing style, and Vj Rosales serves as the group’s musical director, having a background in choral-vocal and jazz studies and experience from ‘The Voice’.

Beyond performing, The Filharmonic has expanded into an agency, Fils Ent., dedicated to promoting Asian representation in entertainment. This includes nurturing new talent through projects like Vocal Seoul, an Asian American K-pop group, and Filosophy, another Asian American a cappella group, both developed to further visibility for Asian artists. They maintain a significant online presence across platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, sharing their music and updates with a global fanbase.
