Skegss bass player Toby Cregan has managed to succeed as a leading filmmaker whilst riding the waves of his band’s success. The Australian surfer started out as Ocean and Earth’s in-house filmer producing breathtaking clips before becoming one of the leading filmmakers in surf motion picture. He also played the main stages at the biggest music festivals in Australia with Skegss, and the band’s debut album My Own Mess peaked at #2 in the charts and was nominated for several music awards.
Born in the small town of Berrara on the southern coast of New South Wales, Cregan spent his childhood and teenage years learning how to become the best filmmaker and editor that he could whilst also enjoying surfing. Cregan then moved to Byron Bay so he could attend film school, where he later landed the role as Ocean and Earth’s in-house filmer.
Whilst living in Byron Bay in 2014, Cregan (also known as Toby Two String) joined forces with Noa Deane, Jonny Lani, and Ben Reed to form garage rock and surf music quartet Skegss. The band have since made a name for themselves as one of the most popular rock bands on the Australian music scene.
Cregan’s surf film career has included much loved hits such as Ferrari Boys, Real Axe, Scorched, Nix Nic Nooley and his Rage edits, and he continues to successfully juggle band tours with his film work.
