Professional rugby union player Ardie Savea is a flanker for the Hurricanes, Wellington and represents the New Zealand national team in the All Blacks.
Having excelled in rugby since his school days when he played as an outside centre, Savea made the move to flanker when he began his professional career, after signing during 2012 when he was 19 to the Wellington rugby football union who play in the ITM Cup. It was soon after in 2013 that Savea went on to also join the Hurricanes in an initial two-year deal. The professional team who compete in the Super Rugby union has gone on to make Savea a regular starter throughout his impressive career. Originally representing New Zealand in the international sevens circuit from 2012-2016, it was in 2013 that Savea was selected as the first non-playing apprentice for the All Blacks, joining them in Europe alongside his older brother Julian Savea. Three years later Savea made his debut with the All Blacks Sevens during their 2016 game in the Wellington 7s series. He has since gone on to play for the All Blacks at competitions including the 2016 & 2018 Rugby Championships and the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
A highly regarded professional rugby player, it was in 2019 that Savea was nominated as World Rugby Player of the Year. Alongside his sporting career, Savea also manages a namesake clothing company with his wife Saskia and is a passionate advocate for mental health issues.
