Tom Petersson

Tom Petersson is a celebrated American musician renowned for his exceptional skills as the bass guitar player for the iconic rock band Cheap Trick. His musical journey began in the late 1960s, where he played in various bands, including the Bol Weevils and the Grim Reapers. It was during this time that he formed a lasting partnership with guitarist Rick Nielsen, which would later lead to the founding of Cheap Trick in 1974. Petersson’s innovative spirit shone through as he pioneered the use of the 12-string bass guitar, an instrument he developed in collaboration with luthiers at Hamer Guitars, setting a new standard in rock music.

After a brief hiatus from Cheap Trick in 1980, Petersson explored his creative talents further by working on a solo EP and touring with renowned drummer Carmine Appice. His return to Cheap Trick in 1987 marked a significant resurgence for the band, contributing to their continued success and evolution in the music industry.
