British diver Tonia Couch was a three-time Olympian who
competed at the very highest level in her sport. Since retiring, she has
received a special recognition award at the British Diving Championships in
2018. The end of her 12-year career also brought with it a move into a coaching
role in her home of Plymouth.
One of the most decorated British divers ever, Couch not
only won silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow but also picked up
three European medals in her storied career. Her debut came way back in 2005
aged just 16 at the World Championships in Montreal: a diving prodigy, she was
heading to the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia only 12 months later.
Her career highlight came in 2008 when she reached the final of the individual 10m
platform board. Four years later, Couch also finished fifth in the synchronised
events at London 2012 and Rio 2016. She has competed with legendary British
diver Tom Daley when the pair took part in the 10m mixed synchronised diving
event at the National Cup. Couch will forever be known as a giant of the
British diving scene, and has made an indelible mark on the history of the
sport.
